Calories Not Count
Not a calculator but a helper: how good the food is, what to swap it for, and how much to move for it
How is this different from a normal calorie counter?
A counter only answers “how much”. Here every dish gets three more answers: how good it is (by the open Nutri-Score algorithm plus a traffic light for sugar, salt, saturated fat and fibre), what you can honestly swap it for, and how many minutes of movement it costs — in the very activities you marked in your profile. We calculate Nutri-Score with the updated 2023 algorithm — the one European labels now use: stricter on sugar and salt, and it tells whole grain from white bread and olive oil from sunflower oil.
Where do the minutes come from?
From MET values, the open compendium of activity intensity. The burn is “MET minus rest, times weight, times time”, so a heavier person works the same calories off faster and a lighter one slower.
Do I have to weigh my food?
No. Tap in portions — “a plate”, “a slice”, “a handful” — even once at the end of the day. Gram-level precision in food is an illusion anyway: eyeballing a portion moves the number far more than any decimal.
Do I need an account?
Not for the diary: search, barcodes, labels, your own dishes, how good a dish is, swaps and movement all work without signing in, and your entries stay on the device. Signing in by email (a code, no password) does two things: it syncs the diary across your devices and it unlocks dish photo recognition — our own model on our own server reads the photo, and the monthly count follows your account.
Does my data go anywhere?
The diary lives in your browser or phone. Barcodes are read on the device itself — only the product number ever leaves. Once you've signed in, a nutrition-label photo is read by our own text-recognition server and only the text comes back; without signing in, the label is read on the device. A photo of a dish, once you've signed in, is looked at by our own model on our own server. Photos stay in memory for the length of the request, are never stored and never reach a log.
What is free and what is not?
Everything in the diary is free: search, barcodes, labels, how good a dish is, swaps, the «top it up» hints, movement, sync, the review of every day plus the week and month in short for the last 3 months, CSV export of the whole diary, and 15 dish photos a calendar month (photos are read once you sign in by email). Plus adds 300 dish photos a month, the week and month reviews (habits rather than totals: what repeats, what moved against the previous month, what to top up and what to swap), a one-page report for your doctor or dietitian over 14, 30 or 90 days, and the full history. Only dish photos are counted — our own model looks at them and the queue is shared by everyone; barcodes, labels, search and typing a meal in are never limited. Plus isn't sold on this website.
Is this a medical service?
No. It is a diary with hints based on open data. For illnesses, pregnancy and therapeutic diets the decisions belong to a doctor.
